Sophie’s Run — Welcome!
Welcome to the 4th annual 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness for Williams Syndrome (Ws) and provide Sophie Gerding with a future needs fund. Sophie has Ws, a rare genetic condition (estimated to occur in 1/7,500 births) which causes physical and cognitive disabilities. Join your friends and neighbors in showing support for Sophie and others with Ws. Bring a comfortable pair of shoes and run or walk along the beautiful Willamette!
The main goal of Sophie’s Run is to raise awareness of Williams Syndrome. Most people even medical professionals are not familiar with Ws and the complications it brings. Prior to Sophie’s diagnosis we knew something was different and having a genetic link and a community of other families with Ws has helped us to help Sophie. If we can educate people on the characteristics of Ws perhaps more children and adults will be diagnosed in a timely fashion, giving the individual with Ws and their family the answers and help they need.
